Cheryl Wessling, Public Information Manager from the Planning, Building and Code Enforcement Department, announced an upcoming open house event hosted by the City of San José and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) to unveil the proposed update to the Five Wounds Urban Village Plan surrounding the future BART Station.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at San José High School, Multipurpose Room, will showcase the outcomes of 18 months of collaboration and community input. Wessling expressed excitement about revealing the joint efforts in designing the plan's policies for land use, urban design, open space, parking, traffic circulation, and displacement concerns.

She highlighted the significance of public input in shaping the vision for the neighborhood's future, stating, "Come see how the public's valuable input has shaped the vision for this neighborhood's future."

The project aims to merge and update the urban village plan for the area surrounding the future 28th Street/Little Portugal BART Station. This initiative consolidates four existing urban village plans, including Five Wounds, Little Portugal, Roosevelt Park, and 24th and William, with the aim of creating a comprehensive and cohesive plan for the area.

Patrice Smith, Chief Communications Officer at VTA, emphasized the collaborative nature of the project, involving the City of San José, VTA, and community members. The public input gathered from prior workshops and the upcoming open house will contribute to presenting a proposed plan for public hearings before the Planning Commission and City Council later in 2024.
