Four players from the San José State women’s basketball team scored in double figures during their game against California Baptist on Friday night in Riverside, California. Despite their efforts, the Spartans lost 69-55 to the Lancers.
Amira Brown led the team with her first double-double of the season, scoring a season-high 12 points and collecting a career-high 12 rebounds. This marks her second double-double as a Spartan. Rylei Waugh also contributed 12 points off the bench, matching Brown for team-high honors in scoring.
Other notable performances included Maya Anderson with 11 points and Allie Cummins with 10 points. Anderson and Amelie Sitterud each grabbed eight rebounds, while Waugh added six boards. The Spartans managed to outrebound California Baptist by a margin of 53-37.
San José State started strong, taking an early lead following a field goal by Harisa Mehmedovic and extending it to 16-11 after two free throws from Cummins. However, California Baptist responded by outscoring the Spartans late in the first quarter to take a narrow lead.
In the second quarter, San José State fell behind by eight but rallied with a run that included Carla Fuster’s first collegiate points on a three-pointer. A layup by Mehmedovic tied the game at halftime.
The Spartans opened the third quarter with an eight-point run capped by a Cummins three-pointer, giving them their largest lead at 38-30. However, California Baptist closed out the quarter on a 9-2 run to move ahead 53-47 entering the final period. In the fourth quarter, California Baptist maintained control as neither team traded leads or tied again.
