Amira Brown scored 20 points for the San José State women’s basketball team in a 96-62 loss to Boise State on Saturday afternoon at ExtraMile Arena. This marks Brown’s second 20-point game of the season. She made six of her twelve shots from the field, including four out of seven from three-point range, and was perfect from the free-throw line with four successful attempts.
Carla Fuster contributed a season-high 12 points, also making all four of her free throws and two three-pointers. Maya Anderson added 10 points, making her the third Spartan player to reach double figures in scoring during the game.
All nine Spartans who played managed to score. Gabriela Pato led the team in rebounds with eight, while Anderson collected six. The Spartans recorded six blocked shots for the second straight game, with Pato accounting for three blocks, Brown for two, and Allie Cummins adding one.
San José State achieved an 81 percent success rate from the free-throw line by making 17 out of 21 attempts. This is the fourth time this season that they have shot at least 80 percent from the line.
The team struggled early, going scoreless for nearly four minutes and trailing 39-14 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, San José State matched Boise State’s output with both teams scoring 17 points.
After the game, head coach Jonas Chatterton said: “We have to continue to grow. The game was won and lost in the first quarter.”
The Spartans will return home next week to host Fresno State on Wednesday and Mountain West leader San Diego State on Saturday at Provident Credit Union Event Center.
