Sophia Burdick led the San José State softball team by achieving a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, but the Spartans were defeated 4-0 by UC Davis in the final day of the Capital Classic held at La Rue Field.

UC Davis took control early in the game, scoring one run in each of the first three innings to establish a 3-0 lead. The Spartans tried to mount a comeback during the later innings but were unable to overcome strong pitching from UC Davis.

San José State’s defense contributed by turning three ground-ball double plays, which helped limit further scoring opportunities for UC Davis. Despite these efforts, San José State struggled offensively and did not record a hit with runners in scoring position.

This marked Burdick’s third game this season going perfect at the plate; she previously went 2-for-2 against Stanford and Cal on February 7. Teammates Taylor Chillingworth, Samantha Blachly, and Leata Sherlin also each collected a hit during the game. Norah Coulsell pitched two innings and struck out two batters.

The Spartans will next host the Silicon Valley Classic II starting Saturday, March 7.
