Colby Garland and Pasha Goodarzi led the San José State men’s basketball team in scoring during an 82-75 loss to UNLV on Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Garland finished with 23 points, while Goodarzi scored a career-high 21 points for the Spartans, who fell to 6-18 overall and 1-12 in Mountain West play.

San José State overcame an early nine-point deficit to take a brief three-point lead in the first half. At halftime, UNLV led 45-41. The Spartans tied the game at 49 early in the second half before UNLV went on a 13-6 run that extended their lead to as much as 13 points with under nine minutes left. San José State narrowed the gap to three points in the final minutes but was unable to complete a comeback.

Melvin Bell Jr. contributed nine points and four rebounds, while Sadraque NgaNga added nine points and eight rebounds off the bench. Due to injuries, San José State used only seven players during the game, with both Garland and Goodarzi playing all 40 minutes.

Garland has now scored at least 20 points in three straight games, bringing his season total of such performances to eleven and his career total to fourteen. He attempted 25 shots against UNLV—the most by a Spartan since Omari Moore took 26 shots against Boise State on February 25, 2023.

Goodarzi reached double figures for his second consecutive game and made multiple three-pointers for the fourth straight contest. This was his first career game with more than twenty points, and he set another personal best by making all eight of his free throw attempts.

Japhet Moupadele hit a career-high three three-pointers during the game.

Adrian Myers set a new personal record with eight assists; he also recorded six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. The Spartans have committed seven or fewer turnovers in each of their last three games.

San José State will return home to face Grand Canyon on Saturday, February 14 at Provident Credit Union Event Center. The matchup is scheduled for broadcast on Mountain West Network.
