San José State University gymnasts Kaviana Jurries and Sophie Patterson have been named Mountain West Vault Specialists of the Week for their performances at last Friday’s quad meet hosted by Boise State.
Both athletes achieved a career-high score of 9.875 on vault during the final rotation, contributing to the Spartans tying the school record with a 49.200 team vault score. Their efforts helped San José State secure a narrow victory over Oregon State, finishing with a total score of 195.475 compared to Oregon State’s 195.450.
This marks the second consecutive week that Jurries and Patterson have received this recognition, and it is Jurries’ third vault specialist award this season.
The Spartans’ vault team is currently ranked 19th nationally with an average score of 49.030.
San José State will host Utah State in its next meet on Sunday, February 15, at 2 p.m., at the Provident Credit Union Event Center. The event is designated as both an Alumni Meet and My Cause Meet, with alumni invited to an open practice on Saturday, February 14, from 3-5 p.m. at the team’s practice gym in SPX 231.
