Representative Zoe Lofgren, who has been serving California’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress since 1995, recently addressed concerns through a series of tweets. Lofgren, a Stanford University graduate who obtained her JD from Santa Clara University, expressed her views on matters concerning Social Security, community health services, and essential federal programs.

On April 16, 2025, Lofgren critiqued recent actions by public figures concerning Social Security. “Trump and Musk are messing with Social Security. They have laid off over 7,000 SSA employees. Not very efficient, if you ask me.” This statement highlights the reported layoffs at the Social Security Administration, which Lofgren suggests are unfavorable and inefficient.

In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Lofgren reaffirmed her opposition to any potential reductions in essential programs such as Social Security. “I stand with my colleagues against any attempt to dismantle essential programs that seniors have paid into throughout their lives. Threats to Social Security will only cause chaos & harm.” Her stance underscores the potential negative impact on the stability and reliability of services that seniors depend upon.

Further expressing concern for public health services, Lofgren addressed the threats posed by funding cuts. On April 17, 2025, she tweeted, “Community Health Centers, like Dientes Community Dental Care, provide necessary services to low-income or rural communities. Cuts to Medicaid / Medi-Cal threaten their ability to serve our communities.” Through this message, she emphasized the critical role of community health centers and the implications that reduced funding may have on vulnerable populations.

Zoe Lofgren continues to stress the importance of maintaining vital services and programs, advocating for the needs of her constituents in California’s 18th district.
