San Jose Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro is offering special game day experiences for families affected by pediatric cancer, according to an April 3 announcement. Through his ticket program, Ferraro invites these families to SAP Center for a night at the Tank, providing them with tickets, parking, and food vouchers. After the game, Ferraro meets personally with each group.
The initiative is intended to provide relief and enjoyment for families navigating difficult circumstances related to childhood cancer. For many of these families, attending a hockey game offers a welcome break from hospital visits and treatments.
Ferraro said he was inspired to start the program after participating in the Sharks Foundation’s Hockey Fights Cancer grant activation in November. There he met several children and their families dealing with cancer diagnoses—a meeting that left a lasting impression on him and motivated him to support them beyond that single event.
As a Hockey Fights Cancer ambassador for the National Hockey League, Ferraro has used his role to advocate for those impacted by cancer. His ticket program not only allows him to connect personally with local families but also encourages other Sharks players to consider ways they can contribute within their community.
Ferraro’s efforts highlight how sports teams can have an impact beyond competition by supporting those facing serious challenges. The continued involvement of players like Ferraro demonstrates that San Jose Sharks hockey aims to bring comfort and connection as well as entertainment.
