Mungali and Barahona lead Spartans after first day at The Desimone Invitational

The San José State men’s golf team finished the first two rounds of The Desimone Invitational in a tie for seventh place, according to a March 9 update from the team. The tournament is being held at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, California.

The team’s performance puts them ahead of six ranked programs, including No. 4 Texas. This result highlights the strength of the Spartans’ lineup as they compete against some of the top collegiate teams.

Keshav “KC” Mungali and Ivan Barahona both ended the day tied for sixth place individually, each shooting a 7-under-par 137. Mungali posted a second-round score of 67 that included an eagle and four birdies, while Barahona opened with a 67 and added an eagle in his second round to stay near the top of the leaderboard.

Other notable performances include Avinash Iyer, who is tied for 28th after carding a consistent 3-under-par total over two rounds. Xuan Luo improved in his second round with an even-par score to finish at four-over overall, while Jed Dy completed play at five-over after rounds of 76 and 73. Itai Cohen competed as an individual and recorded rounds of 78 and 76.

The Spartans are scheduled to conclude their participation in The Desimone Invitational on Tuesday at Lake Merced Golf Club.
