Rep. Zoe Lofgren, who has represented California’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress since 1995, recently addressed issues ranging from credit card fees to space program oversight in a series of posts on her social media account.
On January 13, 2026, Lofgren posted: “American households are paying over $1,000 each year on credit card swipe fees, the highest in the world. My first bill of 2026 is a bipartisan, commonsense reform to promote competition in the credit card market and lower costs for consumers and small businesses.” She followed up shortly after with another post providing additional information: “Read more here: https://t.co/Z41qqukS9l” (January 13, 2026).
The next day, Lofgren highlighted her engagement with NASA initiatives: “Today, I visited Goddard Space Flight Center with my colleagues and saw firsthand the progress of the Nancy Grace Roman Telescope. This afternoon served as a great opportunity to support our space program and to continue our oversight over changes at Goddard.” (January 14, 2026).
Lofgren’s advocacy for consumer protection through credit card market reforms comes amid ongoing national discussions about high transaction fees faced by American families and small businesses. Her legislative focus also extends to federal science programs; she noted continued congressional oversight during her visit to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
A long-serving lawmaker, Zoe Lofgren succeeded Don Edwards in Congress in 1995 after serving on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. Born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently residing in San Jose at age 75, Lofgren holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
