Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 18th district since 1995, has recently posted several statements on her official Twitter account addressing key policy issues including tariffs, healthcare subsidies, and privacy legislation.
On December 11, 2025, Lofgren criticized former President Donald Trump’s trade policies, stating: “Trump’s tariffs have caused immense harm to farmers in districts like mine. His relief plan is a band-aid on a much larger wound.”
The following day, December 12, she addressed ongoing legislative challenges regarding healthcare costs: “Congress has just 6 legislative days left in this year, and Republicans still don’t have a plan to extend ACA subsidies to lower Americans’ skyrocketing healthcare costs.”
Later that same day, Lofgren highlighted her continued advocacy for privacy rights and reform of surveillance practices: “As a champion for privacy and the 4th Amendment throughout my time in Congress, I am working to re-introduce bipartisan legislation that will end unwarranted surveillance of Americans’ personal data while still preserving our national security.”
Lofgren has served in Congress since replacing Don Edwards in 1995 and previously held office on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. She was born in San Mateo, California in 1947 and currently resides in San Jose. Lofgren holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
