Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a U.S. Congress member representing California’s 18th district since 1995, posted a series of statements on March 19, 2026, addressing national spending priorities, online privacy legislation, and women’s rights.
In her first post on March 19, Lofgren questioned proposed federal spending on foreign conflicts: “Absolutely not. Why would we give $200 billion for an illegal war? We could be investing that money here in America by extending ACA tax credits and reversing some of the Republicans’ disastrous Medicaid cuts. People want healthcare, not warfare.”
Later the same day, Lofgren announced new legislative efforts regarding data privacy: “Today, I introduced the Online Privacy Act to set nationwide rules protecting Americans’ personal data. My bill will:
Prohibit companies from using users’ emails for ads
Criminalize doxxing
Minimize the data companies collect and maintain”
In a third statement recognizing Women’s History Month, Lofgren called for legislative action on gender equality: “Women’s History Month is about recognizing women’s achievements but also acknowledging the need to enshrine our rights into law. It’s long past time the Equal Rights Amendment becomes the law of the land.”
Lofgren has represented California’s 18th District in Congress since succeeding Don Edwards in 1995 and previously served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. She was born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently resides in San Jose at age 75. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University (1970) and a Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University (1975).
