Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 18th district since 1995, used her social media platform this week to criticize Republican healthcare policies and highlight local infrastructure efforts.
On December 9, 2025, Lofgren posted: “Speaker Johnson spent this summer throwing 15 million Americans off their healthcare with the Big Ugly Law. If he wants to “fix healthcare”, start by repealing this disastrous legislation.”
The following day, she continued her critique of congressional Republicans’ approach to healthcare subsidies: “Congress has just 8 legislative days left in this year, and Republicans still don’t have a plan to extend ACA subsidies to lower Americans’ skyrocketing healthcare costs.” This post was made on December 10, 2025.
Also on December 10, Lofgren highlighted a meeting with local officials focused on water safety for her constituents: “It was a pleasure meeting with Directors Ballard and Varela from Santa Clara Valley Water District to discuss progress on projects critical to keeping #CA18 residents safe and protecting our communities’ drinking water.”
Lofgren has served as the representative for California’s 18th district since replacing Don Edwards in 1995. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. Born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently residing in San Jose, Lofgren holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
