Rep. Zoe Lofgren, who has represented California’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress since 1995, recently posted a series of tweets addressing issues ranging from public health leadership to environmental policy and economic concerns.
On September 4, 2025, Lofgren commented on Senate testimony by RFK Jr., stating: “As the Ranking Member of @sciencedems, let me say that RFK Jr’s Senate testimony today was a self-contradicting, anti-science circus act. We deserve public health leaders that make evidence-based decisions, not one that peddles conspiracy theories like Secretary Kennedy.”
The following day, September 5, she criticized the Trump administration’s stance on forest protections: “The Trump administration wants to eliminate the Roadless Rule, a critical safeguard for pristine areas of our national forests, including parts of Los Padres National Forest within #CA18. Later on September 5, Lofgren addressed economic data and trade policy: “Today’s jobs report is bad. Unemployment is the highest it’s been since 2021, during the pandemic. Tech and manufacturing jobs are down. Will Congressional Republicans ever stand up to Trump and put the brakes on his disastrous, job-killing trade war? https://t.co/VfFyZqJzeJ”
Lofgren has held her congressional seat since succeeding Don Edwards in 1995 after previously serving on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. She was born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently resides in San Jose. Lofgren earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1970 and completed her law degree at Santa Clara University in 1975.
