Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 18th district since 1995, has recently posted a series of tweets criticizing recent actions by President Trump and House Republicans.

On September 3, 2025, Lofgren commented on President Trump’s decision to dismiss the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner, stating: “President Trump is so scared of the terrible jobs market he’s created that he FIRED the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner just for reporting it. The data wasn’t wrong, but Trump’s job-killing policies certainly are.”

Later that day, she addressed the creation of a new January 6th subcommittee by House Republicans: “House Republicans have voted to create a new January 6th subcommittee, seemingly so they can gaslight America and make excuses for Trump and the insurrection he incited. I served on the original J6 Committee, and I won’t let anybody distort the facts of that terrible day.”

On September 4, 2025, Lofgren reported her opposition to a Republican-backed bill affecting energy programs: “I just walked off the House floor to vote NO on House Republicans’ bill that will slash $1.6 billion from energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. Americans don’t need Republicans driving up their energy costs.”

Lofgren has been active in Congress since replacing Don Edwards in 1995 and previously served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. Born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently residing in San Jose, she holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
