Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 18th district since 1995, recently posted a series of tweets addressing economic and political issues related to former President Donald Trump.
On November 19, 2025, Lofgren wrote, “Trump’s tariffs could add $135 billion to home construction costs over 5 years. We need to be increasing our housing supply, not making it costlier to build.
House Republicans need to stand up against Trump to make America more affordable.”
The following day, on November 20, she commented on statements made by Trump about her congressional colleagues: “Donald Trump is attacking my colleagues and saying they should be hung. His constant desire for political violence is sick and unacceptable.”
On November 21, Lofgren addressed rising unemployment rates: “Unemployment is now the highest it’s been in 4 years. That’s the Trump effect.”
Lofgren has represented California’s 18th district in Congress since succeeding Don Edwards in 1995 and previously served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. Born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently residing in San Jose, she holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
