Rep. Zoe Lofgren, who has represented California’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress since 1995, highlighted recent legislative progress and commemorated Black History Month in a series of posts on February 6, 2026.
In a post published at 14:18 UTC, Lofgren announced bipartisan movement on space policy: ” GREAT NEWS: Along with @RepBrianBabin, I’m proud to have led the bipartisan NASA Reauthorization Act through the House Science Committee this week. Together, we can continue strengthening America’s leadership in space.”
Later that day at 17:40 UTC, she turned attention to Black History Month and its significance: “During Black History Month, we recognize the many powerful stories and voices of Black Americans that have shaped our country. This month and every month, let us honor these contributions and ensure this history is never forgotten or erased.”
In a subsequent post made at the same time, Lofgren referenced a local monument honoring civil rights activism: “Here in #CA18, one monument to Black history is the Victory Salute statue at San Jose State University. It depicts alumni Tommie Smith & John Carlos at the 1968 Olympics raising their fists to protest injustice against Black Americans, one of the most defining images of the Civil”.
Lofgren has served as a member of Congress since replacing Don Edwards in 1995 after serving on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. She was born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently resides in San Jose. Lofgren earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1970 and her law degree from Santa Clara University in 1975.
