Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 18th district since 1995, posted several statements on her social media account reflecting on the passing of a colleague, expressing gratitude to law enforcement, and criticizing former President Trump.
On January 6, 2026, Lofgren shared condolences for Rep. Doug LaMalfa, stating: “Rep. LaMalfa loved the California communities he represented. Doug was a 4th generation farmer, and we worked closely to craft legislation to support our farm workforce. While we often disagreed, I considered him a friend. My condolences to Doug’s loved ones during this time.”
Later that day, she acknowledged the role of law enforcement during the events of January 6th: “Officers like @libradunn saved my life and my colleagues’ lives on January 6th. I’m forever grateful to the law enforcement officials who courageously defended our Capitol and our democracy from the armed insurrectionists.” (January 6, 2026).
On January 7, Lofgren criticized former President Trump and Republican leadership in another post: “Such an unserious and reckless President! Americans don’t want the U.S. to be running Venezuela or Greenland, they want this government to be fixing problems here at home. Trump and Republicans can’t even fix the healthcare crisis they created, what makes them think they can run”.
Lofgren has served in Congress since replacing Don Edwards in 1995 after previously serving on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. She was born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently resides in San Jose at age 75. Lofgren graduated from Stanford University with a BA in 1970 and earned her JD from Santa Clara University in 1975.
