San Jose Sharks acquire Jett Woo from Vancouver Canucks for Jack Thompson

The San Jose Sharks have announced the acquisition of defenseman Jett Woo from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Jack Thompson, according to General Manager Mike Grier.

Woo, 25, has played 26 games this season for the Abbotsford Canucks in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he has accumulated eight points, consisting of one goal and seven assists. He ranks fifth among team defensemen in points and is second in penalty minutes with 78.

Throughout his professional career with both the Utica Comets and Abbotsford, Woo has recorded a total of 91 points—22 goals and 69 assists—in 293 AHL games. Last season, he contributed to Abbotsford’s Calder Cup victory by appearing in 22 postseason games and scoring six points (one goal and five assists), along with achieving a plus-8 rating.

Before turning professional, Woo spent four seasons playing junior hockey for the Moose Jaw Warriors and Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League (WHL). During his time there, he collected 160 points over 242 career games. In the 2018-19 season, he was named to the WHL Eastern Division Second All-Star Team after recording a personal best of 12 goals, 54 assists, and a total of 66 points.

Woo stands six feet tall and weighs 205 pounds. He is originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and was selected by Vancouver as the 37th overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Jack Thompson, who heads to Vancouver as part of this trade, is 23 years old. This year he appeared in 42 games for the San Jose Barracuda, tallying three goals and nine assists for a total of twelve points. Over his professional career so far, Thompson has played in 203 AHL games with totals of twenty goals and seventy-one assists. He has also participated in thirty-four NHL contests with both Tampa Bay Lightning and San Jose Sharks, where he registered ten points—four goals and six assists.
