San Jose Sharks General Manager Mike Grier announced that forward Kiefer Sherwood has signed a five-year contract extension with the team, valued at $28.75 million, with an average annual value of $5.75 million.

“We are very excited to have Kiefer remain in San Jose and be part of the group that we are building,” said Grier. “The ingredients he brings to our line-up on a nightly basis blend extremely well with the skillsets of his teammates and we look forward to his contributions in the years to come.”

Sherwood, 30, joined the Sharks on January 19, 2026, after being acquired from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for prospect Cole Clayton and second-round draft picks in 2026 and 2027. Since joining San Jose, Sherwood has played five games, recording two points—one goal and one assist—including scoring the game-winning goal against the Montreal Canadiens on March 3. He leads the team in hits since his debut on February 4 against Colorado Avalanche, totaling 28 hits and tying for a team-best nine hits in a single game against Winnipeg Jets on March 1.

Before arriving in San Jose, Sherwood had scored 23 points (17 goals, six assists) over 44 games for Vancouver this season. At the time of his trade, he led the Canucks in goals and was third in points while ranking second across the NHL with 210 hits. His performance included two hat tricks during the current season—on October 30 against St. Louis Blues and December 19 versus New York Islanders—and two separate three-game point streaks between November 8 and November 20. He is currently approaching his career-best goal tally from last year, having already achieved three consecutive seasons with at least ten goals.

Over his NHL career spanning stints with Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators, Vancouver Canucks, and San Jose Sharks, Sherwood has played in 314 games and recorded a total of 123 points (61 goals and 62 assists).

In addition to his NHL experience, Sherwood played in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he appeared in 186 games for teams including San Diego Gulls, Colorado Eagles, and Milwaukee Admirals. He accumulated 172 points (92 goals and 80 assists) during his AHL tenure and was named to the AHL Second All-Star Team for the 2021-22 season after scoring a career-high of 75 points over 57 games with Colorado Eagles.

Before turning professional, Sherwood spent three seasons at Miami University (Ohio), amassing 86 points across 106 games. He also played two seasons for Youngstown Phantoms in the United States Hockey League (USHL). The Columbus-born forward stands six feet tall and weighs 194 pounds; he originally entered professional hockey as an undrafted free agent signed by Anaheim Ducks on March 20, 2018.
