San Jose Sharks trade Kyle Masters to Hurricanes for future draft pick

The San Jose Sharks have announced a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes involving defenseman Kyle Masters. According to General Manager Mike Grier, the Sharks received a 2027 fifth-round draft pick, originally belonging to Chicago, in exchange for Masters and San Jose’s 2026 fourth-round selection.

Kyle Masters, 22, has played ten games this season for the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder and recorded three assists. He joined the Sharks organization from Minnesota on October 17, 2025.

Throughout his professional career, Masters has participated in 35 AHL games with Iowa, where he scored one goal and five assists and accumulated eight penalty minutes. His ECHL experience includes 69 games split between Iowa and Wichita, during which he registered nine goals and 26 assists along with ten penalty minutes.

Masters was selected by Minnesota in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.
