KJ Martin Jr., a 6-foot-8 forward from Tulsa, will join the San José State men’s basketball team for the 2026-27 season, head coach Tim Miles announced on May 15.
Martin is set to become a sophomore with the Spartans after playing in all 38 games last season for Tulsa, where he contributed to the Golden Hurricane’s run to the National Invitation Tournament Championship game. During his freshman year, Martin averaged 1.9 points and 1.5 rebounds per game in just under nine minutes per contest, while shooting .429 from the field and .391 from three-point range.
Miles said about Martin: “KJ is a young and promising forward who played in all 38 games for a 30-win Tulsa team. He is just scratching the surface of what he is capable of. Our staff is thrilled to announce KJ’s addition to the Spartan basketball family.”
Before his time at Tulsa, Martin redshirted during the 2024-25 season after graduating high school early and joining mid-year. At The Rock School, he lettered all four years and was an All-State First Team selection as a junior while helping his team finish as state runners-up with a record of 26-6.
In his shortened senior season at The Rock School, Martin averaged more than 20 points per game along with ten rebounds and five assists. In addition to his athletic achievements, he co-authored a children’s book with his father that introduces kids to American Sign Language.
The addition of Martin brings experience from postseason play and youth potential as San José State looks ahead to future seasons.
