San José State baseball opener against Saint Mary’s suspended in extra innings

San José State University’s baseball team faced Saint Mary’s in Moraga, California, on Thursday afternoon in a game that was suspended due to darkness during the 13th inning. The score was tied at 4-4 when officials decided to halt play.

The teams will resume the contest on Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Louis Guisto Field at Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium in Moraga. The game will pick up from the top of the 13th inning and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

During the matchup, San José State scored three runs in the second inning and managed to tie the game in the ninth with a two-out RBI single by Rocco Caballero, forcing extra innings.

“Caballero led the Spartans offensively with two hits and two RBI, while Peyton Rowles added a pair of hits and Alex Fernandes tallied two RBI,” according to San José State Baseball.

Pitcher Luka Pintar contributed six innings of relief, allowing three runs and striking out three batters. Landon Marchetti made his first start of the season for San José State, pitching 4.2 innings, giving up one run, and recording three strikeouts.

The second game of the series is scheduled for Friday as well. It will either begin at its original time of 2 p.m., or 45 minutes after completion of the resumed first game, also available on ESPN+.
