The San José State baseball team is set to host Pacific and Pittsburgh in a series of games at Excite Ballpark this week. The Spartans, with a current record of 4-7, will play Pacific on Tuesday, March 3 at 6:05 p.m. Following that matchup, they will face Pitt in a three-game series beginning Friday, March 6 at 3:05 p.m., continuing Saturday at 1:05 p.m., and concluding Sunday at 12:05 p.m.

All games except Saturday’s will be available for viewing on the Mountain West Network.

San José State split their games against Pacific last season. This weekend’s meeting with Pitt marks the first time the Spartans and Panthers have played each other and also represents San José State’s first contest against a power four conference opponent this season.

Alex Fernandes leads the Spartans with a .415 batting average, ranking fourth in the Mountain West Conference. Peyton Rowles holds a .341 average, placing him twelfth in the conference standings. Fernandes is also sixth in on-base percentage and has reached base in all eleven games so far this season.

On the pitching side, Luka Pintar has an earned run average (ERA) of 3.00 over fifteen innings pitched, ranking eighth in the Mountain West. He has allowed five runs this season. Kyle Calzadiaz is fourteenth in ERA with a mark of 5.27 and is tied for sixth place in strikeouts with sixteen.

David Thomas recently pitched a complete game shutout during San José State’s 8-0 victory over Saint Mary’s on February 28. This was the first complete game shutout by a Spartan since Jack White achieved the feat against San Diego State on May 6, 2023.

Additionally, Tyler Albanese, Alex Fernandes, and Kyle Calzadiaz were named to the preseason All-Mountain West Team.
