San José State University announced on Mar. 19 that its baseball team will host both San Diego State and the University of Connecticut this weekend at Excite Ballpark. The Spartans are scheduled to play each opponent twice, with games against San Diego State not counting toward conference records. All San José State games will be available for streaming on the Mountain West Network.

The schedule includes a doubleheader on Friday, with the Spartans facing San Diego State at 1:05 p.m. and UConn at 5:35 p.m. Saturday features a matchup between UConn and San Diego State at 12:05 p.m., followed by another game between the Spartans and San Diego State at 4:35 p.m. On Sunday, San Diego State plays UConn at 11:05 a.m., and the weekend concludes with the Spartans taking on UConn at 3:05 p.m.

Last season, the Spartans went 1-5 against San Diego State in regular season play but managed a key victory over them in an elimination game during the Mountain West Tournament. The last home win for the Spartans over the Aztecs was on March 20, 2022. This series marks the first-ever meeting between San José State and UConn.

Several individual achievements have highlighted the Spartans’ season so far. David Thomas was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week after pitching six shutout innings in a win over New Mexico. Alex Fernandes leads the conference with a .449 batting average, .560 on-base percentage, and has drawn 18 walks; he also became the first Spartan since 2018 to go five-for-five in a game this season.

Other notable performances include Peyton Rowles hitting walk-off hits in consecutive games earlier this month, while Caden Duke currently leads the Mountain West with a 1.13 earned run average (ERA). Kyle Calzadiaz was named to the National Pitcher of the Year Watchlist for 2026, and three players—Tyler Albanese, Fernandes, and Calzadiaz—were selected for preseason All-Mountain West honors.

The upcoming non-conference matchups provide an opportunity for fans to see how these standout players perform as they face new competition.
