San José State University’s baseball team secured an 8-0 victory over Saint Mary’s College on Saturday at Excite Ballpark. The win was highlighted by a complete-game shutout from starting pitcher David Thomas, who previously played for Saint Mary’s.
Thomas allowed only four hits over nine innings, striking out six and walking one. He threw 91 pitches in the outing, earning his first win of the season, as well as his first career complete game and shutout.
The Spartans’ offense produced 12 hits during the game. Third baseman Alan Ramirez contributed significantly with a three-run home run in the third inning—his first career hit—in just his second at-bat. This broke a scoreless tie and gave San José State a lead they maintained for the rest of the game.
Right fielder Alex Fernandes also had a strong performance, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and scoring twice. Additional runs came in the seventh and eighth innings, with Jake McCoy, Brent Cota, Rocco Caballero, and Peyton Rowlesall each driving in a run. Caballero scored two runs himself.
The series between San José State and Saint Mary’s will conclude tomorrow at Excite Ballpark, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. The game will be available to watch on the Mountain West Network.
