San José State University’s men’s basketball team lost to New Mexico 90-80 on Saturday night at the Provident Credit Union Event Center. The game was presented by El Camino Health.
Colby Garland led the Spartans with 24 points, making eight of his 13 shots from the field. He has now scored at least 20 points in a game for the ninth time this season and totaled 51 points across both matchups against New Mexico this year.
The Spartans trailed by six points at halftime but narrowed the gap to five several times during the second half. The team shot 46.8 percent from the field, made 11 three-pointers, and scored 31 points off the bench. They also had only five turnovers, their lowest total of the season, and generated 15 second-chance points.
Jermaine Washington contributed 18 points and made four three-pointers for the third straight game, tying his season high in scoring. Melvin Bell Jr. added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Sadraque NgaNga came off the bench to record 11 points and seven rebounds.
Marcus Overstreet started for the first time this season and is one rebound away from reaching 500 career rebounds. Pasha Goodarzi finished with eight points, shooting two-for-four in the game.
The Spartans’ next game will be on Saturday, February 7th against Colorado State in Fort Collins. The matchup will be available to watch on Mountain West Network.
