San José State University’s men’s basketball team ended its regular season with an 88-78 loss to Wyoming at the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Saturday. The game also marked Senior Day, with the program honoring players Yaphet Moundi and Sadraque NgaNga for their contributions.
Wyoming established a strong lead in the first half, going up by as many as 21 points and holding a 49-36 advantage at halftime. San José State narrowed the gap to 10 points several times during the second half but was unable to overtake the Cowboys.
San José State shot 54 percent from the field and outscored Wyoming in the paint, posting a 50-44 margin. The Spartans forced more turnovers, winning that battle 12-5, and converted those into 15 points. They also generated 13 fast-break points. However, Wyoming shot 57 percent overall, including nearly half of its three-point attempts (9-of-19), and made all of its free throws (15-of-15). The Cowboys also outrebounded San José State by a margin of 31-21.
Colby Garland led San José State with 24 points and five assists. Adrian Myers contributed 17 points and two blocks, while Jermaine Washington added 14 points. Melvin Bell Jr. scored 11 points and collected four rebounds.
Garland has now scored at least 20 points in ten consecutive games, which is the longest such streak for a Spartan since Olivier Saint-Jean accomplished it over fourteen games in the late nineties. Garland’s total of 547 points this season ranks him seventh on San José State’s single-season scoring list; his performance on Saturday moved him past several former Spartans on that list.
Other notable individual performances included Douglas Langford tying his career-high with three blocks along with two steals, while Washington matched his career-high with three steals. The team’s seven blocks were their most in any game this season.
Looking ahead, San José State will play against the sixth seed in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament on Wednesday, March 11 at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The game is scheduled for an evening tipoff and will be available to watch on Mountain West Network.
