San José State University announced that its football team will begin the 2026 season with a “Week Zero” game against USC on August 29. This marks the start of a notable year for the Spartans, as they are set to play their first 13-game regular season since 2017.
The team will also host seven home games at CEFCU Stadium, which is only the second time in the past three seasons—and just the second time since 2006—that San José State has scheduled this many home dates.
“We are excited to kick off the 2026 season on a national stage at USC,” said Jeff Konya, SJSU Director of Athletics. “Playing a 13-game schedule with seven opportunities for our fans to see us at CEFCU Stadium is a testament to the growth and demand for Spartan Football. We look forward to a competitive year and the continued support of the San José community.”
The matchup against USC will be just the seventh meeting between these two programs. The last time San José State played at USC was in 2023.
Before the official season begins, fans can attend the annual Spring Game on April 18. Details about kickoff times and activities for both the spring game and conference matchups in 2026 will be provided later.
San José State’s non-conference schedule for 2026 includes games at Eastern Michigan on September 5, hosting Cal Poly on September 12, Fresno State on September 19, and Jacksonville State (Jax State) on September 26—all home games at CEFCU Stadium.
