The San José State men’s basketball team is set to play Colorado State at the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time. The Spartans, currently holding an 8-20 overall record and a 3-14 mark in Mountain West play, will look to break a five-game losing streak against the Rams. The game will be broadcast on Mountain West Network and available on KTRB 860 AM radio.

Earlier this season, San José State lost to Colorado State 65-57 at Moby Arena. Despite challenges, including using 15 different starting lineups this year—11 of those during conference games—the Spartans have shown improvement in certain areas. They are shooting .366 from three-point range for the season, which ranks them 51st nationally. Over their last nine games, they have averaged 9.8 made threes per game with a .391 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. The team also averages just 10.6 turnovers per game, the second fewest in the Mountain West Conference and ranking 93rd in the nation.

Colby Garland was named Mountain West Player of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Spartan to earn this honor since Omari Moore in February 2023. “Garland led the Spartans to a 1-1 record on last week, including a 16 point win over Nevada. Garland averaged 25.5 points, seven assists and 2.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 55.9 percent (19-for-34) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from long range,” according to team officials.

Garland is averaging 19.5 points per game this season, placing him second in the conference and among the top fifty scorers nationally. He is also seventh in field goal percentage, fourth in assists per game, and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio within the conference.

Adrian Myers had a standout performance in San José State’s most recent game against Air Force by scoring a career-high 34 points on efficient shooting—making eight out of nine attempts from three-point range—which ties him for most threes made in a single game by a Spartan alongside Trey Smith and Noah Baumann.

Melvin Bell Jr., who has played every game this season for San José State, ranks second in minutes played per game during conference matchups.

Other contributors include Jermaine Washington with an average of 2.4 threes per contest; Pasha Goodarzi averaging just over two threes per conference game while maintaining a .407 three-point shooting percentage; and Sadraque NgaNga who has averaged nearly twelve points per outing with forty percent accuracy from long distance over his last nine appearances.

San José State continues its search for consistency as it returns home for its matchup against Colorado State.
