The San José State softball team will begin Mountain West Conference play by hosting UNLV in a three-game series at Spartan Softball Field, according to a March 12 announcement. The games are scheduled for Friday at 6:00 p.m., Saturday at 3:00 p.m., and Sunday at noon. The first two matchups will be available on the Mountain West Network, while Sunday’s game will air on NBC Bay Area.
Sunday’s contest is designated as Mental Health Awareness Day. This event aims to bring attention to mental health issues within the community and among student-athletes.
San José State started the season with a 1-10 record but has improved recently, going 7-6 over its last 13 games and coming off two wins against Saint Mary’s. Last season, San José State and UNLV split their two meetings, with UNLV winning the first game in nine innings and San José State taking the second.
Several Spartans players have achieved notable conference rankings so far this season. Taylor Chillingworth and Reina Zermeno are tied for first in the Mountain West with two triples each. Chillingworth is also tied for third in being hit by pitches. Carly Cummings has drawn ten walks, ranking ninth in the conference, and is tied for first in sacrifice bunts laid down.
Pitcher Ava Conti holds a 1.75 earned run average, placing her seventh among conference pitchers. Ahmiya Noriega was named to the 2026 Mountain West Preseason Team after leading the nation in triples last year with ten. Noriega currently ranks ninth in batting average (.377) and tenth in on-base percentage (.450) within the conference.
The upcoming series marks an important start to conference play for both teams as they look to build momentum heading into the rest of their schedules.
