San José State Spartans prepare for busy competition schedule across multiple sports

San José State University’s athletic teams are preparing for a full schedule of competitions between February 23 and March 1. Multiple sports will compete at home and on the road, following mixed results from the previous week.

The track and field team is focusing on the Mountain West Indoor Championships in Reno, Nevada, which will take place from Thursday, February 26 to Saturday, February 28. The Spartans previously participated in the Nevada Battle Born Classic.

Women’s gymnastics will travel to Sacramento for a tri-meet against Sacramento State and Cal on Friday, February 27. They return home for Senior Night/White Out on Sunday, March 1, hosting Boise State, Arizona State and Sacramento State at Provident Credit Union Event Center at 2:00 p.m. PST. Last week, the team finished their tri-meet with a score of 196.100.

Men’s basketball is set to play Air Force Academy away on Tuesday, February 24 at Clune Arena before returning home to host Colorado State on Saturday, February 28 at Provident Credit Union Event Center. Last week included an 87-71 win over Nevada but also a loss to Boise State.

The women’s basketball team faces Nevada on Wednesday, February 25 at Lawlor Events Center in Reno and then GCU at Global Credit Union Arena in Phoenix on Saturday, February 28. Last week saw them edge out Utah State by two points before losing to Boise State.

Baseball will compete in a four-game series against Saint Mary’s both in Moraga and San Jose from Thursday through Sunday. In their last series against University of San Francisco, they won one out of three games.

Softball heads to Sacramento and Davis for the Capital Classic tournament running Friday through Sunday after winning three games during last week’s Mustang Classic.

The women’s water polo team hosts No. 1 Stanford on Saturday and Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday after dropping matches against USC and Arizona State last weekend.

Beach volleyball will host Pacific, Saint Mary’s, Santa Clara and Sacramento State across Friday and Saturday at Spartan Beach following losses last week to Santa Clara (5-0) and University of San Francisco (3-2).

Women’s tennis welcomes UC Davis (Thursday) and Cal Poly (Saturday) to Spartan Tennis Complex after road defeats by CSUN (7-0) and CSU Fullerton (4-0).
