San José State University’s women’s basketball team will travel to Boise, Idaho, to face Boise State on Saturday, January 31. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Mountain Time at ExtraMile Arena and will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.

This matchup marks the final Mountain West Conference (MW) game between San José State and Boise State as conference opponents. Both programs have a long history of competition dating back to their time in the Western Athletic Conference.

San José State enters the contest with a 3-18 overall record and a 1-9 mark in MW play. The Spartans are aiming to rebound after their recent loss to San Diego State, where they fell 94-66. Allie Cummins led the team with 19 points in that game, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and hitting all five of her three-point attempts. She also recorded four assists. Stella Sgro contributed 11 points.

Boise State holds a 16-5 overall record and is fourth in the conference standings with a 7-3 MW record. The Broncos are currently on a six-game winning streak, most recently defeating Grand Canyon University 75-65 at home. Head coach Gordy Presnell is leading his 21st season at Boise State and has been a head coach for 39 years.

The series between these two teams dates back to December 16, 1994, when San José State lost their first meeting against Boise State, 57-53, in Berkeley. In their last encounter on January 15, 2025, Boise State won decisively with a score of 93-64. San José State last defeated Boise State on February 28, 2022.

San José State ranks among the top-100 teams nationally in several statistical categories through January 29: they are ranked 80th in blocks per game (3.9), tied for ninth-most blocked shots this season by any Mountain West team; they are also ranked within the top-100 for defensive rebounds (96th with an average of 26.5 per game) and three-point attempts (20th with an average of 26.5 per game). Maya Anderson stands out individually as she ranks nationally for field goal attempts.

Gabriela Pato leads San José State in blocked shots this season with a total of 25, including four blocks against Saint Mary’s College; Kaliyah Dillard follows with nineteen blocks.

After facing Boise State, San José State will return home for two games during Super Bowl week: February 4 against Fresno State at 7 p.m., followed by a matchup versus San Diego State on February 7 at 2 p.m.

“Guard Allie Cummins had a perfect game from the field against San Diego State. She was 7-for-7 from the field, including 5-of-5 from three-point range, as she led the Spartans with 19 points that day. She also dished out four assists for SJSU.”
