San José State women’s gymnastics posts 196.075 in tri-meet at California

The San José State women’s gymnastics team scored a 196.075 during a tri-meet against California and Stanford on March 13 at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, California.

The meet was significant as it provided the Spartans with an opportunity to compete against strong programs ahead of the upcoming Mountain West Championship.

Kaylee Larson led the Spartans with a score of 9.900 on floor, tying for second place in that event and matching her career-best for the second time in three meets. Sophie Patterson finished fourth in the all-around competition with a total score of 39.200. The team began on beam, scoring 48.975, with Patterson and Genesis PeBenito each earning a 9.825 to lead the squad.

On floor, San José State posted its highest event score of the evening at 49.125, led by Larson’s performance and supported by Patterson and Kaviana Jurries, who both scored 9.850. The vault team achieved a score of 49.075, highlighted by Jurries’ 9.875, Ava Johnson’s 9.850, and Patterson’s 9.800. On bars, Samantha Macasu recorded a team-high score of 9.875 as part of the team’s total of 48.900.

Stanford won the meet with a total score of 197.625, followed by California at 197.075 and San José State at third place with their season-high mark.

Looking ahead, San José State will compete at the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship on Saturday, March 21 at Boise State.
