San José State University’s women’s gymnastics team achieved a score of 196.000 during a tri-meet at Sacramento State, competing alongside California. Mikaela Pitts and Kaviana Jurries led the Spartans on vault, each scoring 9.875 to share the event title. This marks Pitts’ fourth vault title and Jurries’ fifth this season.
The team began the meet on bars, earning a 48.800 with Jurries posting a team-high 9.800 in that event. In the beam rotation, Sophie Patterson recorded a 9.925—the highest Spartan score of the evening—making her only the fifth gymnast in program history to achieve that mark on beam. The beam squad collectively scored 49.150, tying for eighth-best in school records, with notable contributions from Genesis PeBenito (9.875) and Mia Nelson (career-high 9.850).
On floor exercise, Kaylee Larson led San José State with a season-best 9.850 as part of the team’s total score of 48.975 in that event.
Returning to vault for their final rotation, the Spartans posted a 49.075—their fourth time surpassing the 49-point mark this season—with strong routines from Pitts and Jurries (both at 9.875), Patterson and Ava Johnson (each at 9.800), and Devyn Valuch (9.725).
Patterson finished third overall in the all-around competition with her best score of the season at 39.225.
The Spartans’ total score of 196.000 is their first time reaching that mark this year and ranks as the eighteenth-best team score in school history.
Following Friday’s results, California led with a team total of 196.875 points, followed by San José State at 196.000 and Sacramento State at 194.900.
Afterward, head coach Joanne Bowers commented: “We’re just rolling.”
San José State will conclude its home schedule on Sunday, March 1, hosting Arizona State, Boise State, and Sacramento State for Senior Day at Provident Credit Union Event Center starting at 2 p.m., with doors opening at 12:30 p.m.; children aged twelve or younger receive free admission and fans can also watch online via Mountain West Network.
