Four gymnasts from the San José State Spartans women’s gymnastics team won event titles as the team achieved a season-high score of 195.900 in a tri-meet held Sunday at the Provident Credit Union Event Center. The Spartans outperformed Southern Utah and Texas Woman’s University.
Kaviana Jurries secured her third consecutive vault title, while Sophie Patterson earned her first vault title; both scored 9.850 on the event. Genesis PeBenito claimed her first beam event title with a season-best 9.900, which was also the highest individual score recorded in the meet. According to San José State records, this marks the 28th time an SJSU gymnast has achieved a 9.90 on beam.
Ava Johnson won her second floor title of the season, achieving a career-high score of 9.875.
The team’s total score of 195.900 is the 19th-highest in school history and represents the first instance of that exact score for San José State women’s gymnastics. The Spartans’ vault squad began with a 48.950, tying for the program’s tenth-best vault team score. On beam, they surpassed a team total of 49 points for the first time this season with a 49.125.
Heading into the final rotation, Southern Utah led narrowly at 146.825 over San José State’s 146.725, but the Spartans posted a floor exercise score of 49.175—ninth-best in school history—to secure their victory.
The Spartans will compete next at Boise State in a quad meet against Boise State, Oregon State, and UC Davis on Friday, February 6.
