San José State women’s tennis defeats Dominican University in home opener

San José State University’s women’s tennis team secured a 7-0 victory over Dominican University (California) in their home opener at the Spartan Tennis Complex on Friday. The win brings the Spartans’ season record to 2-0.

Soledad Fayos Capilla played a key role in the team’s performance, shutting out her opponents in doubles alongside Emma Fantousis with a 6-0 score. In singles play, Fayos Capilla won her match on court two, finishing 6-0, 6-2.

Cristina Mateos Losada and Katarina Brajovic also contributed by winning their doubles match 6-1. In singles, Mateos Losada did not allow her opponent to score, winning 6-0, 6-0 on court six.

Other singles victories included Tara Mihaljevic (6-3, 6-1), Camila Celis (6-1, 6-0), Fantousis (6-0, 6-1), and Duru Durgun on court one (6-1, 6-0). All matches were won in straight sets.

The Spartans will next compete against Pacific’s Tigers on Friday, February 6 at 1:00 p.m.
