San José State women’s tennis falls to San Diego State in 4-0 match

The San José State women’s tennis team lost 4-0 to San Diego State on March 15 at the Aztec Tennis Center. Tara Mihaljevic led the Spartans with a close tiebreaking set, but the team was unable to secure a win.

This match marks another Mountain West Conference loss for the Spartans, bringing their record to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The result highlights the team’s ongoing efforts as they compete against strong opponents this season.

In doubles play, Duru Durgun and Emma Fantousis were defeated 6-3 on one court, while Soledad Fayos Capilla and Cristina Mateos Losada lost their match 6-1. In singles competition, Fayos Capilla fell 6-1, 6-3. Mihaljevic fought through a tight contest but ultimately lost after a tiebreaker, with scores of 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Camila Celis also lost her singles match by scores of 6-2, 6-2.

The Spartans will look to rebound as they return home for a non-conference matchup against Rhode Island on Wednesday, March 18 at noon at the Spartan Tennis Complex.

The upcoming match provides an opportunity for San José State to regroup and seek improvement as they continue their season.
