The San José State women’s tennis team lost 4-2 to Air Force on March 20 at the Spartan Tennis Complex. Emma Fantousis led the Spartans with wins in both singles and doubles, but the team was unable to overcome a late rally by Air Force.

This match marked another close contest for the Spartans, who now hold a record of 7-6 overall and 0-3 in Mountain West play. The result highlights ongoing challenges for the team as they seek their first conference win of the season.

The Spartans started by dropping the doubles point, winning only one out of three matches. In singles play, San José State quickly tied the score at 1-1 before losses on courts five and four put them behind. Duru Durgun managed to cut into Air Force’s lead with a singles victory, but after extended rallies on courts two and six, San José State could not recover.

Fantousis secured her singles win in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) from court three and also teamed up with Soledad Fayos Capilla for a decisive 6-1 doubles victory. Durgun won her singles match (7-5, 6-4) on court one. Other results included Camila Celis falling short (6-4, 6-2), Tara Mihaljevic losing (6-3, 7-5), and Fayos Capilla narrowly defeated in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 4-6). In doubles action, Durgun and Mihaljevic lost their match (6-4), as did Celis and Katarina Brajovic (6-4).

Looking ahead, San José State will conclude its series of matches with a contest against New Mexico scheduled for Sunday, March 22 at noon.
