San José State University’s women’s water polo team secured a 15-4 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday in Monterey, California. The Spartans’ win was highlighted by Darcy Spark, who scored seven goals on as many shots and assisted on two other goals.
“Good team effort today,” said head coach Beth Harberts following the match.
Bridget Cranley contributed three goals from four attempts, making her the only other Spartan with multiple goals in the game. Additional goals for San José State came from Nynke Willemsen, Jennine Osorio, Mackenzy Clark, Taylor Fisher, and Rose Jensen.
San José State’s defense held Cal State Monterey Bay scoreless during the first and third quarters. Goalkeeper Tatianna Raffin recorded six saves, while Sydney Poore added one save during her time in goal.
For Cal State Monterey Bay, N. Mancinelli, E. Sosa, O. Gutierrez, and K. Eaton each scored once. Otters goalkeeper Marisa White made seven saves.
The Spartans will next compete at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara from February 13 to 15. Their opening match is scheduled against Marist on February 13, followed by games against CSUN and Brown on February 14 and Pomona-Pitzer on February 15.
