San José State University’s women’s water polo team lost 15-14 in overtime to Pacific on March 8. The match took place at the SRAC, with San José State ranked No. 17 and Pacific ranked No. 24.

The game was closely contested, with Darcy Spark and Bridget Cranley each scoring four goals for the Spartans. Spark and Cranley were responsible for all four of San José State’s first-quarter goals, giving their team a narrow lead early in the match. Emma Ruzic added a goal just before halftime, allowing the Spartans to enter the break ahead by one point.

After three quarters, San José State maintained a slim advantage following a late goal by Nynke Willemsen. In regulation’s final minutes, Spark put the Spartans ahead again, but Pacific responded to tie the game and force overtime.

During overtime play, Jennine Osorio scored for San José State to even the score at 13-13 before Pacific regained the lead. Spark tied it once more in double overtime, but Pacific scored with two minutes left and held on for the win.

Looking ahead, San José State will travel to Southern California next weekend for three matches: against UCLA on Saturday and then Harvard and UC San Diego at the Aztec Invitational on Sunday.
