The San José State women’s tennis team will play against Utah State in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament, according to an April 21 announcement. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22 at 9:00 a.m. at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.
This tournament appearance follows a recent win by San José State over Fresno State, which marked their first conference victory of the season. Cristina Mateos Losada secured the deciding point on court six after coming back from a set down to win in three sets. Additional wins came from Camila Celis and Emma Fantousis, both of whom won their matches in straight sets.
San José State enters as the No. 11 seed with an overall record of 8-13 and a conference record of 1-10. Their opponent, Utah State, holds the No. 6 seed with an overall record of 11-10 and a conference mark of 5-6.
In their previous postseason meeting, San José State was seeded sixth and defeated eleventh-seeded Utah State by a score of 4-0.
The winner between San José State and Utah State will advance to play No. 3 seed UNLV in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
