San José State University’s women’s water polo team, ranked 17th nationally, secured a 15-5 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday at the SRAC. The Spartans improved their season record to 6-9, while Cal State Monterey Bay moved to 7-9.
Darcy Spark led the scoring for San José State with five goals in the match. “With Spark’s five goals, she now leads the team with 54 goals,” according to the team statement.
Other notable contributors included Bridget Cranley with four goals and Sarah Woren who recorded a hat trick. Rose Jensen added two goals, while Jennine Osorio scored one. Assists came from several players: Jensen, Tasaria Kilpatrick, Spark, Emma Ruzic, Osorio, Rachel Williams, Jessica Ross, Sienna Cimoli and Amelia Lukie.
Defensively, Osorio, Mackenzy Clark and Taylor Fisher each registered two steals. Additional steals were credited to Tatianna Raffin, Ruzic, Woren, Williams, Ross and Cimoli. Raffin posted a save percentage of 100% and made two blocks; Sydney Poore and Larke Eslinger each recorded three blocks.
The Spartans established an early lead with a 4-0 advantage after the first quarter and extended it to 10-2 by halftime. They outscored Cal State Monterey Bay in every quarter.
San José State will next play against Cal on Saturday, March 7 at the Spieker Aquatics Complex.
