San Jose Sharks General Manager Mike Grier announced that goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic has signed a two-year contract extension with the team. The deal is valued at six million dollars, with an average annual value of three million dollars.
Nedeljkovic, who is 30 years old, has played in 26 games for San Jose this season. He holds an 11-9-2 record, a goals-against average of 2.83, and a save percentage of .902. In his last eight appearances, he has achieved a 6-1-0 record and maintained at least a .913 save percentage. From January 6 to January 23, Nedeljkovic posted five consecutive wins, which marked a career high. On January 15, he reached his 200th NHL game milestone during a match against Washington. He also recorded his first official career fight on January 19 against the Florida Panthers, where he stopped 35 out of 36 shots for a .972 save percentage.
Throughout his NHL career with Carolina, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and San Jose, Nedeljkovic has appeared in 205 games and holds an overall record of 85-69-29. His career statistics include a goals-against average of 2.97 and a save percentage of .903 with nine shutouts.
In the 2020-21 season—his first full year in the NHL—Nedeljkovic led all goaltenders with a goals-against average of 1.90 and a save percentage of .932. That season he was named to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team and finished third in voting for the Calder Memorial Trophy as top rookie. During the Stanley Cup Playoffs that same year with Carolina, he recorded a goals-against average of 2.17 and a save percentage of .920 over nine games.
On January 17, 2025, Nedeljkovic scored his first NHL goal and became the league’s sixteenth goaltender to do so. He was also the first goalie in NHL history to score a goal and register an assist in the same game and remains the only goaltender to have scored goals in each of the NHL, AHL, and ECHL leagues.
Nedeljkovic has significant experience in the American Hockey League (AHL), playing in 182 games for Charlotte, Grand Rapids, and Wilkes-Barre teams. His achievements include winning the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award as best AHL goaltender and being named to the First Team All-Star list for both the 2018-2019 and 2020 seasons. He won the Calder Cup Championship in 2019 alongside then-assistant coach Ryan Warsofsky.
Internationally, Nedeljkovic represented Team USA at several tournaments: he played at the World Championships in 2024; earned bronze at the World Junior Championships in 2016; and won gold at the U-18 Championships in 2014.
He is originally from Parma, Ohio, stands six feet tall and weighs 203 pounds. Nedeljkovic was selected by Carolina as their second-round pick (37th overall) during the 2014 NHL Draft.
