SAN JOSE, CA – On April 18, U.S. Representatives Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Anna Eshoo (CA-16), Ro Khanna (CA-17), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will provide Santa Clara County with $11,109,104 to support community-wide efforts to end homelessness. The FY22 consolidated appropriations package that Reps. Lofgren, Eshoo, Khanna, and Panetta voted in favor of appropriated the HUD funding being delivered around the country.
“Homelessness in Santa Clara County is a serious problem, caused and/or exacerbated by the astronomical home prices in the area and the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Reps. Lofgren, Eshoo, Khanna, and Panetta. “Addressing homelessness requires action from all levels of government. This federal funding will help Santa Clara County provide much-needed local resources and care to homeless individuals and families. All of us are committed to boosting federal investments in programs that uplift underserved communities and make housing more accessible and affordable.”
The HUD funding comes from the Continuums of Care (CoC) program, specifically, which supports nonprofit providers as well as State and local governments. The CoC program aims “to quickly rehouse homeless individuals and families while minimizing the trauma and dislocation caused to homeless individuals, families, and communities by homelessness; promote access to and effect utilization of mainstream programs by homeless individuals and families; and optimize self-sufficiency among individuals and families experiencing homelessness."
