WASHINGTON, DC – On July 13, U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Ranking Member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, along with U.S. Representatives Anna Eshoo (CA-16), Ro Khanna (CA-17), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) will distribute $267,416 to the Tech Interactive to support their BioTinkering Lab, which provides hands-on STEM learning experiences.
“The Tech Interactive is an outstanding resource in San Jose that provides kids and adults alike with hands-on opportunities to learn about science, engineering, and mathematics,” said Reps. Lofgren, Eshoo, Khanna, and Panetta. “We’re proud that this federal funding will help the Tech Interactive continue to provide our community with engaging learning activities and encourage more young people to explore careers in STEM.”
The BioTinkering Lab is an award-winning initiative at the Tech Interactive, and this funding will allow for collaboration with other museums around the country, including the Amazeum, New York Hall of Science, and Missoula Public Library. This funding comes from the NIGMS’s Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) which supports PreK-12 STEM learning.
The FY23 consolidated appropriations package Reps. Lofgren, Eshoo, Khanna, and Panetta voted in favor of provided the SEPA funding that is being delivered.
