San José Fire Department and the City Manager’s Office of Emergency Management have announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the City of San José’s new Fire Training Center and Emergency Operations Center. The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 1591 Senter Rd. in San José, California.
The Fire Training Center and Emergency Operations Center, located in adjacent buildings, boast a total of seven classrooms, with six dedicated to the San José Fire Department and one to the Office of Emergency Management. The facilities include administrative office space and training grounds tailored to simulate emergency scenarios unique to San José.
According to the San José Fire Department and the City Manager’s Office of Emergency Management, the six-story training tower within the center is equipped to train firefighters in responding to various incidents, including those in high-rise buildings, multi-story apartment complexes, residential structures, strip malls, warehouses, and more. The center also provides training opportunities for vehicle extrications, rope rescues, and confined space rescues.
Notably, the Fire Training Center received recognition as a Structures Award winner in the Public/Civic category by the Silicon Valley Business Journal in 2023. Alongside this, the Emergency Operations Center serves as the central command and control facility for local government to facilitate interagency coordination and executive decision-making during incident response and recovery operations.
Media personnel planning to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony are requested to RSVP by 8 a.m. on March 28, 2024, by contacting SJFDPIO@sanjoseca.gov or calling 408-398-9228. On-site parking will be available for media representatives accessing the lot via 10th St. between E. Alma Ave. and Phelan Ave, just south of Tech CU Arena. Street signage will guide attendees on the day of the event.
