San José Clean Energy (SJCE) is celebrating its five-year anniversary of providing clean and renewable energy to the residents and businesses of the City of San José. According to Marika Krause, the Marketing and Communications Manager at SJCE, the city's power supply is currently 60% renewable and is on track to achieve its goal of being 100% renewable by 2030.

Mayor Matt Mahan expressed pride in the city's achievements, stating, "San José is leading the nation’s clean energy transition." He highlighted the innovative partnerships of SJCE that are crucial in ensuring clean and reliable power, fostering economic growth, and promoting equity within the community.

City Manager Jennifer Maguire emphasized the department's commitment to equity and community welfare, particularly through programs like the SJ Cares initiative, which provides discounts to low-income customers. Maguire stated, "Like every City department, the Energy Department is deeply committed to the community and equity, working with neighbors to ensure everyone has access to solar energy at affordable rates."

Lori Mitchell, the Director of SJCE, commended the department's achievements in transitioning to renewable energy while maintaining affordability and offering beneficial programs to the community. Mitchell said, "What we’ve accomplished with our power supply in just five short years is remarkable."

San José Clean Energy has implemented various community-focused programs in collaboration with state agencies, resulting in substantial cost savings and energy conservation. These programs include initiatives such as Solar Access, Energy Efficient Business and Residential programs, and the California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP), which promotes the installation of electric vehicle chargers in the city.

SJCE stands as the largest single-jurisdiction Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program with a 97% participation rate, underscoring the community's strong support for renewable energy initiatives. CCAs are not-for-profit agencies in California that enable communities to procure power for their residents and businesses.

As San José Clean Energy commemorates its five-year milestone, the organization remains committed to its mission of providing clean, affordable, and sustainable energy to the City of San José.
