San Jose, Apr 18, 2024 - Cheryl Wessling, Public Information Manager at the Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement Department, invites the public to an upcoming Building Safety Open House event on May 2, 2024. The event aims to provide valuable information and assistance to attendees regarding building safety and compliance.

The event will feature experts from the Building and Planning Divisions, along with other City staff, who will be available to provide guidance on various topics. Wessling encourages attendees to "come talk with experts from the Building and Planning Divisions and other City staff. Get help from our inspectors, advice on flood zones, and tips for making your home safer and more energy-efficient."

Special presentations will be conducted during the event, including sessions on Disabled Access Compliance for Small Businesses, Key Tips & Recent Code Changes for ADU Projects, and Construction & Creating Defensible Space in Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Areas. Wessling highlights the importance of these presentations, noting that "Accessibility requirements are good for business" and emphasizing the benefits of the City's grant program in covering costs and avoiding lawsuits.

The event, organized by the Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement Department, will take place during International Building Safety Month in May. Attendees are encouraged to register for the event, although registration is not required. Further details about the event location and parking information can be found on the event flyer or by visiting www.vta.org for bus route information.

The Building Safety Open House presents an opportunity for the community to engage with experts, learn about important building safety measures, and receive valuable tips for enhancing the safety and efficiency of their properties.
