The City of San Jose has announced plans for the construction of a temporary surface parking lot in downtown San José. The project, known as the Milligan Parking Lot Project with File No. ER20-049, aims to provide parking space during construction activities in the vicinity.

According to the project details, the approximately 2.5-acre project site will see the removal of existing buildings to make way for an approximately 300-space surface parking lot. The site, currently housing 118 surface parking spaces used for SAP Center events, will undergo significant changes to accommodate the proposed parking lot.

As part of the project, 28 trees, including 20 ordinance-sized trees, will be removed, and 26 replacement trees will be planted. Additionally, a future pedestrian trail or Class I paved bicycle and pedestrian trail will be constructed within the setback area located between the parking lot and the Guadalupe River.

The project site, spanning approximately 2.6 acres, is bordered by North Autumn Street, West St. John Street, the Guadalupe River, and existing residential development. The SAP Center at San José and the Guadalupe Freeway (CA-87) are located in close proximity to the site.

Despite the project's progress, no City Council hearing date has been set yet. The City of San Jose has assured that the project website will be regularly updated, and emails will be sent to interested parties once a hearing date is confirmed.
